Anxiety
July 8, 2021The Delta variant of COVID-19 has been responsible for the majority of the latest spike in new cases. The strain was first discovered in India, but has since made it’s way to more than 80 states, CNBC states. It has become the dominant strain across the world, and has done so in a rapid fashion. In previous blogs, we talked about having less of a reason to worry about the Delta strain if you’re vaccinated, but does that still hold true?
In an article written by The Washington Post, they state, “Israel’s Health Ministry this week announced that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine — one of the world’s most effective shots — was offering only 64 percent protection against infection and symptomatic illness caused by the delta variant.” This is concerning because people have waited so long to get a vaccine, and now people will start to question if their vaccine will protect them anymore. The scariest part is the thought of another shut down.
The good news is, studies have shown that there is much lower risk for severe illness and death. There still is less reason to worry because if you do contract the delta strain, it’d be much like fighting a cold off. However, the risk of spreading it to others increases so quarantine would probably be sufficient, as well.
