June 22, 2021There has been worries about another wave of COVID-19 with the new Delta strain that is rapidly spreading. This variant of the virus is highly contagious, and officials are worried that this variant is the strongest strain of COVID-19 that we have seen. Symptoms of this variant have appeared to be more severe, and because of this, experts are encouraging unvaccinated folks to get the vaccine to keep yourself and others safe.
Massachusetts has seen a breakout of COVID in fully vaccinated people, and according to Fox News, there have been nearly 4,000 cases of COVID diagnosed. Good news is, the chances of acquiring COVID while you are fully vaccinated is less than 1 in 1000. In Massachusetts, there have been nearly 3.7 million vaccines administered. The cases have also been far less severe, and often times asymptomatic. The duration of COVID in fully vaccinated people is also “very mild and brief” according to Davidson Hamer – Boston University infectious disease specialist.
This proves the vaccine is not 100% effective in preventing cases, but it greatly reduces your chances of getting sick, and minimizes symptoms and duration if it is contracted. People who are fully vaccinated face a far less probability that they will not only get sick, but will also have a much lower chance of being in hospital or even die from it.
The CDC released a study that shows the effectiveness of each vaccine against COVID-19. Pfizer and Moderna are around 90% effective, and the one dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine sees about a 72% effectiveness rate. The vaccines also work against the new Delta variant.
